If you are planning to start a family a fertility check can help you make important decisions about timing and the choices that you may need to make the plan a reality. We encourage couples to visit Orchid together to do a Fertility Wellness check.
You will be asked to visit the clinic as a couple, to have a thorough consultation with one of our fertility experts. You will be asked about your general health and any medical problems you may have had in the past, as well as about any menstrual problems the female partner may be experiencing.
You will also be asked how long you have been trying for a child and whether you have had any problems in terms of sexual intercourse – pain during sex or difficulty in ejaculating can both cause fertility problems.
BOOK AN APPOINTMENTThe woman may need to give blood samples around seven days before she is due to start menstruating, to check that she is ovulating normally, and men are usually asked to provide a semen sample, which can then be analysed in the laboratory to check the quantity and motility of the sperm, among other things.
If all these tests come back clear, then the woman may need to undergo ultrasound scans and X-rays of the pelvis, which should be able to show up any blockages. It may be that more invasive checks are needed, such as a hysteroscopy or laparoscopy.

BOOK AN APPOINTMENTIt is up to the individual couple to decide how far they are willing to go in diagnosing infertility issues. If all the tests have come back clear, then it may be that your fertility problem will resolve itself in time and you may even be able to conceive naturally.
If you prefer not to wait any longer for that to happen then you can commence IVF/ICSI treatment as soon as you choose. The role of our specialists is to provide you with all the information and advice you need, in a supported and relaxed environment, so you can make these important decisions.
BOOK AN APPOINTMENTTo give your fertility treatment the best chance of success, it is important that your lifestyle is as healthy as possible. This means maintaining a healthy diet, getting enough sleep and avoiding any excessive stress.
At Orchid, we believe that our unique, holistic approach to fertility treatment, that nurtures the physical and mental well-being of the couple at the same time as providing expert medical care, sets us apart.
