Neurology
Introduction
Advances in the last two decades of the last century have changed the way neurologists treat their patients. With the advent of sophisticated investigations the element of guess work in day to day clinical management is disappearing at a fast pace. Coupled with novel methods of treatment, medical care has been transformed into a high tech process, which can be pursued with mathematical precision.

WHAT IS STROKE ?
Stroke occurs when flow to a part of brain is stopped either by a blockage or rupture of a blood vessel
TYPES OF STROKES
ISCHEMIC STROKE
It occurs when a blood clot blocks a blood vessel and prevents blood and oxygen from getting to a part of brain
HAEMORRHAGIC STROKE
It occurs when a blood vessel ruptures due to high blood pressure or blebs in the blood vessel (Aneurysm)
EMBOLIC STROKE
An embolic stroke occurs when a blood clot that forms elsewhere in the body breaks loose and travels to the brain via the bloodstream.
HOW TO IDENTIFY A STROKE
F.A.S.T. is a simple test used to understand the symptoms of stroke from its time of onset itself.

After F.A.S.T. examination if you knew you had a stroke, rush to a Stroke ready Hospital (“Remember Time is Brain”)
WHAT IS A STROKE READY HOSPITAL
A hospital is said to be Stroke Ready if it has
- Availability of a Neurologist and Neuro-Surgeon specialized in stroke care
- Availability of 24*7 Interventional Neuro-Radiologist
- 24*7 Mechanical Throbectomy facility
