Sr. Consultant - Anaesthesiology & Critical Care, Cardiac Anaesthetist & Intensivist

Dr. Abraham Cherian is Senior Consultant and HOD, Department of Anaesthesia & Critical care. He has more than 25 years experience in the field of anaesthesia and critical care. He graduated in Medicine from the JJM Medical College, Davengere affiliated to the Mysore university in 1989, and completed his MD in Anaesthesia from the Christian Medical college, Ludhiana, affiliated to the Punjab University in 1995. He completed his Post Doctoral Certificate course in Cardiac Anaesthesia and Critical care at the Madras Medical Mission Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, in 1999.

He has wide experience in both adult and paediatric cardiac anaesthesia and post operative care. His special areas of interests are managing patients with high risk cardiac diseases for cardiac and non cardiac surgeries; ultrasound guided vascular access, regional nerve blocks, difficult airway management and percutaneous tracheostomy in ICUs. He was former clinical professor and HOD of the dept of Cardiac Anaesthesia at the School of Medicine, Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi. He has served as examiner for DM Cardiac Anaesthesia in various Medical Universities in India and also as examiner for DNB in Anaesthesia conducted by the National Board of Examinations. He has published papers in various international and national journals and has been on the editorial board of the Indian Journal of Anaesthesia and the Annals of Cardiac Anaesthesia. He has also served as the President of the Indian Society of Anaesthesia, Kerala State Chapter and the National Treasurer and Executive Council Member of Indian Association of Cardiovascular Thoracic Anaesthesiologists.
