Chest pain is a common symptom seen by clinicians regularly in emergency rooms. All chest pains are not necessarily be of cardiac related. While only 15 to 30 percent of chest pains are due to cardiac causes, other non-cardiac reasons like gastrointestinal, pulmonary, musculoskeletal and psychological causes accounts to the rest.

In all cases, chest pain is the indication of an emergency medical care and Renai Medicity has to its credit, Kerala’s first of its kind, highly specialised chest pain centre to admit patients brought in with a chest pain.

Usually, hospitals right away admit patients with any chest pain to cardiac care units or intensive care units for further diagnostic evaluations. But in most cases, very few are diagnosed with coronary syndromes. As these admissions may result in unnecessary spending and wastage of time, it can be avoided by evaluating low to moderate risk patients in our chest pain centre. The centre attached to 24-Hr accident & emergency is managed by a team of highly skilled doctors and staff. It is well equipped to diagnose the cause of chest pain quickly. If the patient’s chest pain is related to non cardiac reasons, he or she will be observed in the centre for 6 to 24 hours depending on the condition and then discharged. For low risk cases, patients may be discharged within few hours itself. If the patient is diagnosed as having cardiac or any other life threatening condition, he or she will be shifted to CCU, Cathlab or ICU for further treatment according to the condition.
