Dr. Suja P. Sukumar started her medical career in 2000 at Thrissur medical college, Kerala where she completed her MBBS and then moved on to pursue postgraduate medical degree (MD General Medicine) at Coimbatore medical college, Tamil Nadu and secured state level first rank in MD Medicine. She worked for 1 year as senior resident in the department of Endocrinology at JIPMER, Puducherry. She secured first rank in DM endocrinology entrance at the nation’s premier institute of endocrinology in PGIMER, Chandigarh, India. After DM she worked as consultant Endocrinologist in Sunrise multi speciality hospital, Kakkanad for 2 years. Equipped with training and experience to treat common as well as complex hormonal disorders and diabetes, her special areas of expertise include reproductive endocrinology, paediatric endocrinology (disorders of growth and puberty, type 1 Diabetes, ambiguous genitalia), metabolic bone diseases, difficult to treat diabetes, thyroid, pituitary and adrenal disorders. She established the first multi-disciplinary Transgender clinic in private sector in Kerala in Oct 2017 and caters to the gender reassignment needs of the transgender population. She has several publications in indexed international journals, has authored chapters in text books and has actively participated in many national and international conferences. She regularly conducts CME programmes for primary care physicians and health talks to adolescent children, general public and Transgenders.
