One of the most renowned Oncologist and Surgeon in the world, Dr. Thomas Varughese, after getting trained in Surgical Oncology and other treatments from India’s premier cancer centre Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, brings to Renai Medicity legacy so unique. He is credited with the setting up of the first Cancer Surgery Centre in Private sector in Kerala at MOSC Medical College, Kolenchery as early as in 1996. There are several innovative surgical approaches designed by Dr. Thomas Varughese, reported for the first time in literature such as Drain-less Breast Oncoplastic surgery for Operable Cancer breast (‘Thomas Technique’) and Scarless, Horizontal lateral Thyroidectomy (‘Thomas Technique’). Dr. Thomas has vast experience in organ preservation surgeries of head and Neck, Lung, Extremity sarcomas and GI tract. Downstaging of various cancers of different organ systems and sarcomas of various types are routinely undertaken to preserve the organ and functions. Total Peritonectomy for GI tract and ovarian cancer is routinely done and Fertility preserving cancer surgeries of genital tract is done here. Dr Thomas got special training in Oesophagus surgery from Juntendo University Japan. He was awarded with Best Innovation in surgery/Best Doctor Award by Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University on July 1st 2012, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. He also received Gold Medal from CRISIL-MEDICALL Health Care Innovation Award 2012 at Chennai. Dr. Thomas is also the recipient of Gold Medal for Best Innovation in Surgery in International College of Surgeons’ (Indian section), National meeting on Dec 4-16th, 2012, Ahmadabad, Gujarat, India. Dr. Thomas has also received best paper award in the world thyroid congress held in Belgrade, Serbia April 18-21st, 2013 and inducted to Serbian Royal Academy of Scientists and artists. His papers on original research work have won best paper awards in many Oncology International Congresses such as World Federation of Surgical Oncology International Congress 2008, Krasnodar, Russia and A.E International Cancer Congress 2010, Dubai Festival City.
